Center Made Improvements In The Film Certification Process

The government has taken a major decision today, Friday, March 15, to reform the film certification process. The Center has notified the Cinematograph Rules, 2024 for comprehensive reforms in the film certification process. The government has given this information by issuing an official statement today on Friday. The statement issued said that these rules will help in adopting online certification processes for better transparency and ease of doing business for the film industry.

The Cinematograph Rules will also establish a rule for priority screening of films to increase transparency and eliminate all discretion. The statement said that these rules will reduce the timeline for the process of film certification. Along with this, it will also help in adopting complete digital processes to eliminate all transaction times.

The rule also provides for certification of facilities to include viewing of films for persons with disabilities. The statement issued said, in pursuance of the Cinematograph (Amendment) Act, 2023, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has notified the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, replacing the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 1983.

The statement further said that these rules have been extensively revised in the order. Also, Cinematograph Rules have been notified to reform and modernize the entire process of certification of films for public exhibition.
