American Singer Mary Milben Came In Support Of CAA

The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The CAA was an integral part of the BJP’s manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Parliament enacted it on December 11, 2019, after the BJP government came to power. In an official post on Twitter, Milben, a Christian and supporter of religious freedom, lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Mary Milben wrote, ‘As a Christian, a woman of faith and a global supporter of religious freedom, I commend the Narendra Modi-led government for today announcing the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which is now being extended to those who are persecuted. In her message, Milben expressed her gratitude to PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the Government of India for their compassionate leadership and steadfast commitment to upholding religious freedom. In the post on X, he further wrote, ‘Thank you to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and the Government of India for your compassionate leadership and most importantly for welcoming the persecuted and upholding religious freedom.’

Mary Milben’s statement adds to the discussion about India’s stance on religious freedom and commitment to providing asylum to those in need, underscoring the global significance of the country’s recent legislative actions. The Union Home Ministry on Monday notified rules for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), days before the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule.
