Bollywood Actress and air hostess Parveen Dastur, who played the role of Seema in the film Maine Pyar Kiya, recently shared her experience of working with Salman and Shah Rukh Khan in the film. Talking to Bollywood Thikana, the actress said that when she shared the screen with Salman Khan in 1989, she had no idea that Salman would later become such a big actor.
On working with Salman Khan, Parveen Dastur said- Salman was fantastic on the set. He is a very nice person and an even better co-star. He has helped me many times on the sets, we also had a lot of fun while shooting. Even today whenever I meet him, he meets me the same way he used to meet me earlier.
Parveen also worked with Shah Rukh Khan in the film Ahmak. The film was based on the book The Idiot by Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky. The film was launched on TV by Doordarshan in 1991 as a mini TV series in four parts. This film was never released in the theatre. However, in 1992 the film was entered into the New York Film Festival.
Talking to the media, she also told that in those days Shahrukh Khan’s mother’s health was very bad and he used to be very upset. The actress was asked if at that time she ever felt that Shahrukh-Salman would become such a big name later, she said- No, I had never thought. I never even thought that this film would be a hit. Nor did it ever think that Salman-Shahrukh would get so much stardom.
Parveen Dastur said on the experience of working with Shahrukh Khan – Shahrukh is a very good person. When we were shooting for the film in Goa, his mother was very unwell. Because of this, he used to be very upset. Shahrukh used to visit Delhi repeatedly to meet his mother.
Further, Parveen also said that she never thought that Shahrukh would be so successful. He further said- At that time no one had thought that who among us would become a star and who would not. We just used to have fun on the sets.
Parveen Dastur further said- Rajshree Productions never paid good money to the actors but we never had to worry about the money from their side. We used to get the checks given by them directly at home. He never cheated anyone. There are many people in the industry who refuse to pay you after work. I have also worked with such people.
Parveen also told that the set up of the film was very good. She said- Make-up room, food and everything we needed were easily available to us. We were told that this production house does not pay more than Rs 1000-2000 to anyone and we are getting very good money.
During the conversation, Parveen also told that despite Salman Khan being in the film, Bhagyashree got the highest fee at that time. Bhagyashree was the lead actress in the film and she got Rs 1.5 lakh for the film while Salman Khan was paid only Rs 31,000. Parveen told that she was given Rs 25,000 for the film.
Salman Khan had told in an interview to PTI that his first salary was Rs.75. He had told- I was dancing in a show behind Taj Hotel and for this I got this money. Later I shot for the Campa Cola soft drink brand for a fee of Rs 750. After this for a long time I got around 1500 rupees as fee. I got Rs 31,000 for Maine Pyar Kiya and later it went up to Rs 75,000.
Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, Maine Pyar Kiya was a blockbuster hit at the box-office. The film was produced by Rajshree Production. Salman Khan and Bhagyashree were in the lead roles in this film.
