Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on 26 July to commemorate the victory of the Indian soldiers over the infiltrating Pakistani troops. This year is the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil Vijay Diwas is commemorated in India to honour the sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army during the Kargil War in 1999.
Enemies were encamped at a height of 17 thousand feet. If the Indian Army tried to climb up, the enemies would have easily targeted them. America refused to give GPS co-ordinates and bombs to India. In such a situation, the Indian Air Force made a mission plan – Operation Safed Sagar.
The Mirage 2000 aircraft bought from France were fitted with targeting pods imported from Israel. In these, Tiger Hill was targeted by planting 1,000 pound country bombs. This jugaad destroyed the bunkers of the intruders. This helped the jawans to capture the peaks. The story of Kargil Vijay is replete with such thrilling anecdotes.
On 26 July, the Indian Army formally declared the war over. Since then this day is celebrated as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’. On completion of 24 years of Kargil victory.
