National Award Winner Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film is ‘Emergency’. In this, the actress herself will be seen playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Apart from this, she herself is also directing this film.

In the film, not only Indira’s political journey but also her childhood will be shown. If sources related to the film are to be believed, the makers have spent Rs 15 crore so far to recreate that era. The film is slated to release on November 24 this year.

The film’s art director Wasik Khan told in a special conversation, ‘The story of Indira ji from birth till her assassination will be shown in the film. In such a situation, we have recreated every important moment related to his entire life.

For this, we have created from Nehru House where his childhood was spent to 10 Janpath and White House. Wasik says, “We had rented four floors of a studio building in Madh Island for the shooting of the film. Used to shoot on the same set there. We had made different sets on different floors.

The film also has 40 per cent VFX work. We have created the plane crash of Sanjay Gandhi by hanging the structure of the plane in the air. In this way many more big sequences were also shot. All this was very expensive and time consuming.

Along with this, Wasik also gave an important information. He said, ‘I think the riots that took place after Indira ji’s assassination can also be shown in the film. However, how much survives after being edited, will be a matter to be seen. The shooting of the film began in July last year. The shoot kept breaking in between. Its shooting was finally completed two months ago. Everyone shot for 50 consecutive days for the last schedule.

Hollywood’s famous action director Nick Powell has been hired to design its action scenes. Nick has previously worked with Kangana in Manikarnika. Along with this, the services of Japanese cinematographer Tetsuo Nagata were also taken. He had earlier worked with Kangana on ‘Dhaakad’.

From the Belchi massacre of Bihar to the freedom struggle of Bangladesh, the film will also show. The Belchhi massacre portion was shot at the Chandivali studio in Mumbai itself. Whereas, the makers shot the sequence of Bangladesh’s freedom struggle in Assam. Apart from this, the sequence of slum demolition and sterilization campaign run by Sanjay Gandhi was shot at Filmalaya Studio.
