The government has done a lot to revitalize Chandigarh. Metro services will start in Chandigarh like Delhi and Gurugram. The new metro route in the central state of Chandigarh has been largely neglected. As of now, Punjab Haryana or Chandigarh Prashashan has been approved by the Joint Meeting.
The new metro route will have more than 10 stations, linking the Chandigarh Railway Station to Punjab and Haryana. The project is expected to be completed by 2021. It will provide faster and more efficient public transportation for commuters in the region.
The route was 66 km earlier, but now it will be around 77 km. The revised route has been increased from 11 kilometers to 77 kilometers. A detailed project report will be prepared in March 2024. Approximately 10570 crore rupees will be spent in the project’s first quarter. The state government will pay 20% and the central government will pay 20%. The remaining 60% will be taken from the loan.
It is the first milestone that will be reached on the metro line from 2027 to 2037. This metro links The New Chandigarh to Saharanpur, ISTB Panchkula to Panchkula extension, Rock Garden to ISBT Chandigarh, Zirakpur airport to Industrial Area.
There has been a demand for the metro in Chandigarh for a long time, and that’s why Chandigarhians are happy it will happen. Chandigarh is a tourist destination. Tourists come from all over the world.
In this way, people got relief from the metro. Every year thousands of people visit Chandigarh. From Chandigarh people can travel to Shimla, Kullu Manali, Dharmshala, Kalada, or other places. Chandigarh is the first step to visiting Himachal.
