Bollywood Director Prashant Verma has recently launched his Cinematic Universe (PVCU). Under this, his first film is ‘Hanu Man’. Next, Prashant will make films with multiple genres and heroes equipped with many super powers. In this special conversation, he talked about the future plans and ‘Hanu Man’…
Question- When did the idea of making Cinematic Universe come?
Answer- Right from the time of my first short film, I wanted to connect all my films. This is the reason why my first short film has reference to my second short film and the third one in the second short film. When I thought of making superhero movies, I thought it would be best if we could keep everyone in one universe like Hollywood movies. Right now we are developing only Indian Mythology inspired films, but in future we want to explore other genres as well.
Question- Where was the village set for ‘Hanu Man’ built?
Answer- ‘Hanu Man’ is set in a fictional village named Anjanadri. With the budget we had for the film, we could neither go to the real location nor shoot in any big studio. So we took a piece of land on lease near the city and built most of the sets there. Now we have opened a studio there called ‘Hanu Man’ and the rest of my films are also being shot there.
Question- Why was Teja cast for the lead role in ‘Hanu Man’?
Answer- When I was casting for ‘Hanu Man’, I needed an underdog actor. Teja Sajja had done my previous films, so I felt he would fit perfectly in this role. His on screen and off screen image was perfect for the character of the film. We will also bring its sequel in future. A film like ‘Hanu Man’ will not be limited to just one part.
Question- This film was to be released in May, then why was it delayed?
Answer- We thought that we can complete the film by May, the shoot was also done. Editing, dubbing and everything was done, but VFX is taking more time. We are trying our best to get the film ready as soon as possible. The VFX company has promised us all the shots by the end of June. We will announce the release date only when we have all the shots in hand.
Question- At what stage is ‘Adheera’ and when will ‘Zombie Reddy 2’ come?
Answer- ‘Adheera’ is in the pre-production stage. We will start shooting for ‘Hanu Man’ as soon as it releases. Next, we will also get the cross over of ‘Hanu Man’ and ‘Adhira’ done. The rest of ‘Zombie Reddy 2’ was written only when we were doing the first part of it. I will not direct that film, but am associated with it as a creative producer. One of my colleagues will direct it.
Question- Will you bring heroes of Indian comics in your superheroes?
Answer- Right now we are only focusing on creating new superheroes. Maybe we’ll think about it in the future. The rest of the character in our film ‘Adheera’ is inspired by Indra Dev. We will try to bring actors from all over India in our cinematic universe. Just like there is a crossover of characters in ‘Avengers…’ and other superhero movies, this will definitely happen in the movies of my universe.
