Sun Tzu a Chinese Military General once Quoted ” HE WILL WIN WHO KNOWS WHEN TO FIGHT, AND WHEN NOT TO”. The main character Sathya from Shivkarthikeyan starred film is entirely about realizing this.
This theme becomes the film’s conflict because Sathya lacks valor. He is not the person about whom stories are spoken, nor is he the archetypal hero. Sathya only truly shines in his capacity as a cartoonist. Even that is initially concealed by a mask. Sathya’s persona is therefore gradually revealed as the movie goes along. He is not just a basic coward who won’t oppose the system. He very well knows the consequences of being a part of such a fight or even of leading one.
His father also died in one of these fights, whom he took as an example. He knows about his weakness and like everyone, he also believes that adjustment is the way to find happiness and safety in life. So Sathya tries for peace whereas his mother was getting ready for the fight. She makes stands for her principles and belief system.
Nothing will matter to him as long as he can avoid this system or the one in charge of it. The only female character by whom he got impressed is his mother Saritha. Aditi Shankar who is working as Sathya’s work colleague has a love interest in him. Now what happen when he lost control of the situation and was forced to seek justice? What will he do when his own family member got humiliated badly? Will he stands for peace or choose a coward’s route? Does it make a good film, No.
But he wouldn’t turn into a brave man overnight. He sees through an imaginable world that helps him to escape. He also seeks support, understanding, and even help from drawn characters whom he uses to draw. This is the entry point to everything supernatural in the movie, and it’s odd that the movie only manages to inject a dash of realism through fiction and fantasy.
Now this time Sathya is like everyone. The one who prioritizes his family over society. The one who lives in a bubble and when things get harsh then they run into their own world. The call for help is totally understandable here. Although it is a dramatic and attraction-seeking attempt. But it does not try to overpower the scenario of conflict. Here Visuals, editing, music, and images come together to work flawlessly.
Overall, The movie is excellent, especially the background music which gives a realistic feel. In this film, Sathya’s call for help is answered in a really great manner.
It is really great experience to see the role of Vijay Sethupati. The relationship between Sathya and the fictional man added wholesomeness to the film. In this film, the people who are closer to you are gonna write off him as having a mental disorder cause the relationship is full of comedy, frustration, breakup, and grief of relationship.
He does get it checked by a psychiatrist, only to understand that something beyond human understanding is happening in his life. The film director Madonne Ashwin beautifully presented a simple story of a man who finds courage even during hard times in the comedy form which is going to make the audience mad with laughter.
