Raj and DK’s web series ‘Guns and Roses’ is going to release on Netflix this month. It follows the story of a young gangster set in the 90s. Which will be released on Netflix on 18 August. Gulshan Devaiah is playing the role in it, his name is 4 Cut Atmaram. Gulshan Devaiah talks to Dainik Bhaskar about what newness this series will bring for today’s audience despite the story being set in that period.
How was the casting in the web series?
I had directly received a call from Raj sir. I had worked with him before as well. Raj and DK are actually such makers, seeing whose work people would like to be like them.
Your look here is like that of Sanju Baba?
Yes. It’s just hair. The reference was also to Sanjay Dutt’s pictures. Even the villain had the same hairstyle. Sanjay Dutt doesn’t look like this anymore. However, in this look, the front hair is mine and the back hair is fake.
Glimpses of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ have been seen in the series, what would you say on this?
Haven’t thought that much. You have taken the names of many makers. Now from whom Raj and DK got inspiration, only they will tell. Maybe there is some similarity. Along with this, many actors put their colors. So it is possible that he has taken indirect inspiration. This happens many times. For example, when I was doing a show, the way my hands were moving, later people felt that he might not be like Irrfan. But I was not doing it intentionally.
How was it working with stars like Rajkumar, Adarsh Gaurav and Dulquer Salmaan?
The prince did not get a teacher at all. He was not even found in Badhaai Do. Don’t know where he used to go after giving a shot. Met Dulquer for the first time. He is a very big star, but he is a very sweet person. Couldn’t meet Adarsh Gaurav as I also contracted Covid during the shoot. By the time he joined again, he had completed his shooting. Although we were talking on the phone last days. Amazing actor. It was very interesting to know his method too. I would like to follow them.
Can we call Raj & DK the Bhansali of OTT?
See they are all different. Raj sir is a little calmer. DK is very energetic. Both share the work among themselves. As for the question of comparing it with Raj & DK’s previous work, I didn’t think about it. But if people want to think then think. All are hit shows. From The Family Man to Fergie or whatever.
How was it working with Janhvi Kapoor?
The second schedule of the film was to be held in Delhi, but there was a lot of rain. Shoot washed out. Rest Jhanvi is very hard working person. He doesn’t have time at all. For example, today you are shooting a film. Also doing rehearsals for the evening event. It is difficult to do all this at the same time. You have to be physically, mentally prepared. When other people do the same, I respect them a lot. Because I will not be able to do that much work. As I was doing Ramlila, Deepika was there.
We were shooting the song that the next day he had an event in Dubai. She came back after doing it and again for 12 days continuously we kept shooting songs in the film. Don’t know when do you sleep? But the next day again she looks absolutely fresh.
