Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Satya’ has completed 25 years. Released on 3 July 1998, this film is today counted among the cult classic films. However, it was not easy for director Ram Gopal Varma to complete the film. Sharing the main reason for this, the film’s lead actor JD Chakraborty told in an interview that Gulshan Kumar was murdered on the third day after the shooting of the film. It was very bad news and we were all upset to hear it.
JD further said, ‘After this there was pressure on all of us that we should not make a film based on the underworld. However, Ramu ensured everyone that he would not glorify the underworld in the film and through this film, the world saw the emotional side of the underworld for the first time.
On the other hand, in an interview given to Hindustan Times, Manoj Bajpayee also talked about this film. He said, ‘I had no career before this film. I was getting small roles. ‘Satya’ has given me a career. My career came into shape after this film. Manoj played the iconic role of Bhikhu Mahatre in this film.
On the 25th anniversary of the film, Manoj Bajpayee has also shared a post thanking its director Ram Gopal Varma. Manoj tweeted a video and wrote, ‘Who is the king of Mumbai? #25YearsOfSatya’.
While commenting on this post of Manoj, the fans have praised him fiercely. One user wrote, ‘Now a days you are the king of OTT.’ Another user wrote, ‘Bhikhu Mahatre, what was the role and what was the acting. Really amazing.
Released in 1998, the film proved to be career changing for Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap. Anurag co-wrote the story of the film with Saurabh Shukla. At the same time, Manoj got the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for this film.
