Famous filmmaker George Lucas of ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise will be honored with the Palme d’Or award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. He will be awarded this award during the closing ceremony on 25th May.

After the announcement of this award, Lucas reacted and expressed happiness. He said in a statement that the Cannes Film Festival has a special place in his heart. The filmmaker said, “I was surprised and delighted when my first film ‘THX-1138’ was selected to be screened in Directors Fortnight, a new program for first-time directors. Since then I have been a part of the Cannes Festival several times as a writer, director and producer. This honor really means a lot to me.”

Lucas’ work has been highly praised by Cannes in announcing the honorary Palme d’Or award. Additionally, he was also described as a pioneer of the visual effects industry. Speaking about the festival, Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux has said that the number of American films at the festival will be less due to the impact of the Hollywood strike. Nine years after unveiling ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ at the festival in 2015, George Miller will bring ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ to the public on May 15. This will also be Kevin Costner’s first visit to the Croisette after 20 years.
