The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will not challenge Rhea Chakraborty’s bail decision. Giving information to the Supreme Court, the NCB said that they are not in favor of challenging the decision of the Bombay High Court.
Apparently, after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, NCB arrested Rhea Chakraborty on charges of taking drugs. Rhea was in jail for about 28 days. He got bail from the Bombay High Court in October 2020. Rhea has expressed gratitude on social media after this decision.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju told the Supreme Court in front of a bench of Justices SS Bopanna and MM Sundaresh that he would not go against Rhea Chakraborty’s bail. ASG said- We may not be challenging the bail, but keeping in view the NDPS Act, always keep it open for consideration. Do not let the order become an example of any method.
The Supreme Court has accepted this appeal of the ASG. It has also clarified that the Bombay High Court order will not be considered as a precedent. The sections that the NCB had imposed on Rhea under the NDPS Act include illegal drugs trafficking and attempt to commit an offense and abetment of criminal conspiracy. There is a provision of 10 years of imprisonment if proved guilty.
It has been 3 years since Sushant’s death. Three big agencies of the country, CBI, NCB and ED are involved in this case, but till now nothing has come out in this case. CBI in its final report considered the case as suicide.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found mysteriously dead at his home in Bandra on June 14, 2020. At first glance, the case was found to be suicide, but later due to pressure from the media and opposition parties, the investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI.
When the CBI was probing the matter, the drugs angle came to the fore in it. The Narcotics Control Bureau had conducted a massive investigation into the matter. The talk of drugs syndicate was also revealed in the investigation.
Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty was badly trapped in this drugs case. Rhea herself was accused of taking drugs and giving drugs to Sushant as well. Apart from this, Rhea was also accused by Sushant’s family members that she used to torture Sushant mentally and financially.
Rhea Chakraborty was arrested in this case on 8 September 2020. After being in jail for 28 days, the Bombay High Court granted him conditional bail on 7 October.
