Dhanush was born on 28 July 1983 in Madras to Tamil film director and producer Kasthuri Raja. He was named Venkatesh Prabhu Kasturi Raja. Dhanush always wanted to become a chef, for which he dreamed of going to Hotel Management School. On the path of Dhanush’s father, his elder brother also became a director, so he wanted Dhanush to become an actor instead of a chef. Dhanush did not take admission after obeying his elder brother.

Dhanush made his acting debut at the age of 19 in the Tamil film Thulluvadho Illamai (2002), directed by his father, and changed his name to Dhanush from Venkatesh. Dhanush kept his screen name inspired from Operation Dhanush shown in the 1996 film Kuruthipunal. Dhanush’s debut film Thulluvadho Illamai did not do well at the box office.

After this film, Dhanush did not get any recognition, nor was he offered any other film. In such a situation, his elder brother Selvaraghavan cast Dhanush in his directorial debut film Kadhal Konde (2003).

Dhanush was shooting for Kadhal Konde one day. Some people came to see the shooting on the set. When he saw Dhanush, he came near and asked who is the hero of the film. At that time, Dhanush did not have the confidence to call himself a hero. He knew people would make fun of him, so he pointed to another cast member.

When those people started looking for the hero, someone pointed towards Dhanush. Knowing this, those people started laughing loudly. Pointing towards Dhanush, those people said, look at that auto driver, he is a hero. Those people were joking a lot. Seeing this, Dhanush ran away in his car and started crying loudly. 19 year old Dhanush could not tolerate this insult because everyone used to make fun of him.

The film Kadhal Konde was released on 4 July 2003. On the first day, many big stars of Tamil cinema came to see that film. Dhanush had come to watch the film with his family. As soon as the interval happened, the theater owner introduced Dhanush to Rajinikanth and his two daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya. Dhanush shook hands with both, but he liked Aishwarya in this short meeting.

One of the reasons for noticing Aishwarya was also that Aishwarya was staring at Dhanush the whole time. Dhanush was celebrating by hugging his family at that time, because he knew that the film would be a hit. The interval ended and both went to their respective seats. After completing the film, both left for their respective homes.

The next day a bouquet arrived at Dhanush’s house. It was from Rajinikanth’s daughter’s side. There was a small letter with him, in which it was written – You have done a great job in the film, stay in touch. Dhanush started talking to Aishwarya as soon as he received the bouquet. After the conversation, there were meetings again, but within a few days, the news of their closeness started being discussed in the film circles.

While the song Kolaveri Di became a worldwide hit, popular lyricists accused the song of insulting sensibilities. In April 2012, a petition was filed in the Kerala High Court, demanding a ban on this song. It was alleged that this song is having a wrong effect on the children and promotes aggression.
