It’s Been 30 years of Sanjay Dutt’s blockbuster film Khalnayak. The film was released on 15 June 1993. This was the time when there were serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt’s name also figured in these blasts. As was the title of the film, he was being seen in real life as well.
Well Sanjay Dutt has congratulated the people associated with the film by posting on social media today. Sanjay said that the film seems to be from yesterday, not 30 years ago. Sanjay has also thanked the starcast and director Subhash Ghai associated with the film.
Sanjay wrote – I feel proud to be a part of an iconic film like Khalnayak. I am also very thankful to Subhash Ghai ji and Mukta Arts who made such a film and made me a part of it. Subhash ji is one of the biggest directors of Indian films. Hearty congratulations to Jackky Dada and Madhuri Dixit who played Ram and Ganga. Apart from this, many congratulations to all the cast and crew members of the film.
Bomb blasts took place in Mumbai on 12 March 1993, two months before the release of Khalnayak. In this blast, 257 people lost their lives and 713 people were seriously injured. When the investigation of these blasts started, the names of gangsters like Dawood Ibrahim, his brother Anees Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and Abu Salem came up. However, the most shocking name in this investigation was that of Sanjay Dutt.
According to a court ruling in June 2017, Abu Salem went to Gujarat in January 1993 at the behest of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and from there brought 9 AK-56 rifles, 100 hand grenades and bullets to Mumbai. All these weapons and explosives were directly taken to Sanjay Dutt’s house. There Abu Salem had kept 2 AK-56 rifles and 250 bullets. Two days later, he had picked up those weapons from Sanjay Dutt’s house.
Sanjay was booked under the Arms Act for possession of dangerous weapons. He was first sentenced to 6 years which was later reduced to 5 years. Sanjay went to jail for the first time on 19 April 1993. After this, from 1993 to 2016, he went to jail several times. Though in 2016 he completed his 5 years imprisonment.
