Veteran filmmaker director Rakesh Roshan has given the Koi Mil Gaya franchise. The film is going to complete 20 years on August 8. The filmmakers are re-releasing the film on August 4 in 30 cities across the country. Hrithik Roshan’s fans are eager about the new part of the film Krrish 4. Rakesh Roshan has shared many interesting aspects related to the film in a special conversation.
Question- What was the most challenging in making the film Koi Mil Gaya?
Answer- Hrithik’s character was mentally disabled. Also he had to act with the children. So there Hrithik had to maintain a lot of balance so that while working with children, Hrithik’s work should not reflect over acting. Also, the work should not look like underplay. On top of that, the love story here was also new. Hrithik had locked himself alone in the hotel room for 10 days. He came straight from there and gave the first take on the set, so I understood that he is in Rohit’s character only.
Question – Everyone liked the character of Jaadu from the film. Is there ever a spin off on that possible?
Answer- Yes, you can. If the story is good. This will probably be the only film in Hindi which has taken the form of an original sequel, till date India Mein Aisa Hua Nahi. I am taking the same story forward. The story will go ahead in Krrish 4 as well. We will share information on that very soon.
Question- Do you have the story already written till Krrish 5?
Answer – No. This is a very difficult task. We do part by part. Also, before going for the shoot, Hrithik and I discuss every scene a lot. That’s why it takes me years, two years to three years to write. Then it takes the whole next year to make it. In such a situation, if the film does not feel old at the time of release, then we plan the story idea thinking ahead. We make stories thinking five years ahead. Like when I made ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’, then people said that in this film only the wife kills her husband. Such pictures will not work for a while. King is uncle, Karan Arjun, all these are pictures ahead. In Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, two boys look alike, but they are not brothers. Also, whatever film I make, I show it to 1000-2000 people before its release. I take their reaction. I try to learn
Question- What were the challenges for Hrithik and child artists? Tell about this.
Answer- In those days no other picture of Hrithik was running. Also, we showed Hrithik both the shades in ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’. From a simple young man to a stylish young man. Here we were showing the third aspect. The character of Jaadu became very popular from the film. The selection of child artistes was tough. Instead of auditioning someone, I used to talk to them. What should be its songs, that was a big challenge. Hrithik could not even sing normal pyar mohabbat songs. So we created the situation. Made them perform on different songs like ‘Idhar Chala Main, Udhar Chala’.
Question- What was the reaction of the distributors to Koi Mil Gaya, because many of his films had flopped before that?
Answer- Yes, just a month before its release ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’ did not even run. Even before that, seven or eight pictures were not shown. So before its release, I showed the picture to the distributors of various territories. He was also told clearly that this is not a typical hero film. He is playing the role of a child.
See the picture. After that make a strategy. Because even after saying lakhs, they released my previous pictures like Koyla, Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai at seven in the morning, whereas I had said that they will release at least at 12 o’clock. So there I got him a written agreement that Koi Mil Gaya would be released at least at 12 in the morning.
Question – Did TV actor Indravadan Purohit play the role of magic?
Answer- Actually no one had played magic. The shooting took place in the magic costume. It was the costume itself. It was prepared by experts from Australia. We used to shoot in that because it had only wires inside. It could break if there was too much movement. Must have got someone to play in the long shot.
