It is the 50th birthday of director S.S. Rajamouli. All the films made by Rajamouli have achieved success at the box office. Along with hit films, he is also credited for giving superstars to the film industry. In his 23-year directorial career, he has directed only 12 films, all of which were hits. He has also worked as a screenwriter in 11 out of 12 films.

Rajamouli’s parents had a dream that he should become a director. Father V. Vijendra Prasad is also a famous screenwriter and director of the South Industry. Keeping this in mind, the family members started preparing Rajamouli in this field from an early age.

Rajamouli was born on 10 October 1973 in a Telugu family in Mysore district. His father V. Vijendra Prasad is a well-known screenwriter and director of the South Industry and mother Raja Nandini is a housewife.

Rajamouli used to narrate the stories he had read and the stories of films to his friends in his own style. Later, all these things helped in his direction. Mother’s dream was that Rajamouli’s command over English should also be strong. For this reason, he used to watch English films along with Hindi films. It was the dream of the parents that Rajamouli should pursue a career in direction.

At that time Rajamouli’s family owned 360 acres of land. His father and uncle were very passionate about film making. To fulfill their dream, both of them sold a lot of land and shifted to Madras. Both of them made many films here but most of the films flopped. Due to this the family had to face financial problems. The circumstances were such that 13 people of the family had to live in 2 rooms.

Seeing the deteriorating condition of his family, Rajamouli started working at the age of 20. Film editor K. Rajamouli started his film career as a trainee under Venkateswara Rao. Rajamouli worked with him for about 6 months. He started working here on the advice of his father, but gradually his inclination turned towards film direction. After this he worked for a few days in AVM Theater in Chennai. Then he assisted his father in direction for 6 years.

Initially Rajamouli used to write film scripts. But he was always disappointed that other directors were not able to present the stories written by him properly on screen. This disappointment motivated him to leave writing work and direct the film. His thinking was that he would be able to present the stories written by him properly on screen.

Initially Rajamouli had directed some commercial and ad films. Then he entered the Telugu film industry in 2001. The first film made under his direction was Student No. 1, in which Junior NTR was the lead hero. Made on a budget of Rs 1.80 crore, this film had earned Rs 12.09 crore. This film was produced by Raghavendra Rao.

Rajamouli directed the third film Sai (2004), in which Nitin and Genelia D’Souza were in the lead roles. Made with a budget of Rs 8 crore, this film was the most expensive film of Rajamouli’s career which was not released from theaters for a year. The film did a business of Rs 13 crore. The film was awarded 4 Nandi Awards.

The 2006 film Vikramarkudu proved to be the turning point in Rajamouli’s career. This film starring Ravi Teja was remade in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi (Rowdy Rathod). The 2009 film Magadheera gave Rajamouli recognition not only in the South Industry but across the country.

Kajal Aggarwal, Ramcharan starrer, this film was made with a huge budget of Rs 35 crore, which made a box office collection of Rs 150 crore. This film ran in theaters for 1,000 days, breaking the record of Chandramukhi, the longest running film. It became South’s biggest hit film, winning two National Awards, 6 Filmfare and 9 Nandi Awards.

This is the same film which brought stardom to lead actors Ramcharan and Kajal Aggarwal. It was Magadheera that brought the trend of period drama and socio-fantasy to the South Industry. After this Rajamouli directed Maryada Ramanna (Hindi remake Son of Sardar), Eega (Makkhi). Maryada Ramanna had collected Rs 60 crores and Eega had collected Rs 130 crores.

Rajamouli gave the second highest grossing Indian film of 2015, namely Baahubali. This film gave Rajamouli worldwide recognition.

The film had earned Rs 75 crore worldwide on the very first day of its release. Which was the biggest opening in the history of Indian cinema. Later, the record of this film was broken by 2016’s Kabali by collecting Rs 82 crore. This was the first South film to earn more than Rs 300 crore, out of which Rs 263 crore was the collection of just one day.

After this, the trend of Pan India films started in India. The film had a worldwide box office of Rs 650 crore, while its second part Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) created a new record by earning Rs 1800 crore. It is the biggest hit in the history of South cinema and the second highest grossing film in the history of Indian cinema after Dangal.

The film RRR, released in 2022, was the 12th film of Rajamouli’s career. The song Natu-Natu from this film has also won the Oscar Award. Rajamouli married Rama in the year 2001. This was Rama’s second marriage. He also had a child from his first marriage. In 2000, Rama divorced her first husband. Rajamouli already knew him. In this bad time, he fully supported Rama and took care of him.

After some time he realized that Rama was more than a friend to him. Without thinking one day he proposed to Rama. After Rama’s consent, both of them got married in the court. However, after marriage, Rajamouli and Rama have also adopted a daughter.

During the shooting of a film, Rajamouli was not satisfied with his costume design. When Rama saw his problem, he decided to design Rajamouli himself. During an interview, Rama has said that she never wanted to become a designer, but she can read Rajamouli’s mind, so she designs for him.

According to Statista report, Rajamouli’s total net worth is Rs 1000 crore. He charges Rs 200 crore for a film. In this way he is the most expensive director of India. He also has a luxury house in Hyderabad. He bought this house in 2008. He also owns many real estate properties. Talking about car collection, he has Range Rover and BMW.
