Read Time:4 Minute, 8 Second

Bollywood Actor Bobby Deol is in the news these days about his film Animal. He has played the role of a dreaded villain in the film for which he is getting a lot of applause. Bobby Deol shared his experience from getting this character to getting people’s love in a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar…

How is the response being received for ‘Animal’?
Getting a lot of love from people. I am getting so much love that I feel like I am dreaming. Feeling very happy. I worked very hard for this role, but I never thought that the reward would be so sweet. Many people are getting calls. I have never received so many calls in my life as I am getting for this film. Everyone is giving great praise.

What percentage of your skills have been utilized in your career so far?
Right now many of my friends are asking the filmmakers why they did not get Bobby Deol to do such roles for so many years? My friends who love me a lot have raised their voice and said this. As actors, we think that we should get every type of character but this is the struggle of every actor.

Be it the web series ‘Aashram’ or the film ‘Animal’, he has been seen in negative roles for some time. What kind of role are you hungry to play?
As an actor, I want to play every type of role. Earlier my image was of chocolate boy, a little action hero type, but no one was giving me such roles. Then I did ashram etc.

When Aashram became a hit, people saw me in a different light. Then people wanted to see him in a negative role. Then I started getting villain roles. I don’t want to be a villain all the time, because a good villain is just like a hero. I did Animal, but people gave so much love.

I want to do challenging characters. Nowadays in films, heroes also become villains and villains also become heroes. Everyone keeps doing comedy also. Today it is not that you are a comedian, villain or hero.

What was your first reaction after hearing your role in Animal?
I was very happy that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga gave me a chance. I was waiting for such a director whose work I like.

I was sure that this character had a back story. This villain did not become just like that. Her grandfather had committed suicide by burning himself in front of her eyes. Because of this he loses his voice. She has feelings for her grandfather.

He is not doing anything wrong as per his character. He swears to avenge his grandfather. If we look at the fight sequence between me and Ranbir, Ranbir is also taking revenge by taking wrong steps. Both of us are committing crimes. But who are we doing this for? We are doing it for our family. It is fun to play such a character. Don’t know who is the hero and who is the villain? People watch the fight sequence.

People say that you have been given very less screen space. What is your opinion on this?
I knew that my role in the film was not that long. I have only 15 days of work. But I never thought that people would be so happy after seeing my work that they would miss me.

Share any experience of shooting in London with Ranbir?
I shot my portion in London for 15 to 18 days. At that time the temperature there must have been 2-3 degrees. It was very cold. On top of that, we were shooting shirtless on the runway in an open field. When there was strong wind, the cold increased considerably.

It was very difficult to work in such cold. But it was also fun while doing the fighting scenes, because before going for the shooting, we had rehearsed for a week in Mumbai. It was a lot of fun working with Ranbir. Despite being such a big star, he remains down to earth. I was more than happy about this, so it was fun working with him.

The day my work was over and I woke up the next morning, I was very sad. Was wondering why this shoot ended so quickly. I will miss Ranbir’s company. There is a lot of similarity between us. We are very family oriented. We are very fond of shopping. We used to talk about shopping. Used to talk about family.

I had posted a black and white photo on social media. In that, Ranbir and I are lying on the ground. This was a photo of those days when we were doing action sequences. We were lying down between shots. We both were discussing how he proposed Aalia for marriage and I was telling him what situation we were going through when our elder son was born.
