‘Lapata Ladies’ directed by Kiran Rao releases theatrically on March 1, 2024. Upon release, the film received positive reviews from critics and audiences. The film ‘Lapata Ladies’ is based on the award-winning novel by Biplab Goswami. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film stars Sparsh Srivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goyal and Ravi Kishan in lead roles. The film takes the audience back to rural India of 2001. Its story revolves around two brides who get swapped during a train journey. A journey filled with ups and downs begins when her husband starts searching for a real bride.
Kiran Rao returned to direction after ‘Dhobi Ghat’ with this film made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions. Ahead of its theatrical release, the film was slated to be screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. It received a standing ovation from the audience present at the festival.
