Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer ‘Ponniyan Selvan’ is another Pan India film from South. Mani Ratnam has directed this film. The Hindi dubbing of the film was completed in about two and a half to three months. Aishwarya Rai herself has worked for 8 to 10 hours daily for 7 days to dub her dialogues in Hindi. Hindiization of dialogues of all the characters has been done by popular writer Divya Prakash Dubey.
Divya Prakash Dubey told, “Actually ‘Ponniyan Selvan’ is based on a very popular book of South. The writer of this book was Kalki, as well as he was also a freedom fighter. Attempts were made to make films on Kalki’s book earlier also. Kamal Haasan also wanted to make a film on it. The rights to make a film on this book were sold for 10 thousand rupees in 1960. Today, the value of that amount is in crores. The last 70 years on this book of South Efforts have been made to make films from it, but now for the first time a film has been made on it. Did not get.”
Aishwarya Rai is in the role of Nandini in the film. Not only their names were changed, but some characters’ names have been changed in Hindi. For example, a character named Paduvetrayar was made Parveshwar in Hindi. Says Divya, “The forgotten words have been brought back in the film. Aishwarya liked that the dialogue had words like spy.
She did her part dubbing for six to seven days. Vikram sir also did Hindi dubbing himself. No other Hindi artist has dubbed his part of the dialogues. Mani sir’s assistant Sana was also dubbing the whole time. There was no voice over artist in Mumbai whom we had not approached. We almost did the dubbing. Approached 300 voice over artists for this.”
