South’s superstar Suriya seems to be in trouble. Saidapet Court has directed the Chennai Police to register an FIR against Suriya, his wife Jyothika and director of the film ‘Jai Bheem’ TJ Gyanvel. A Vanniyar group named Rudra Vanniyar Sena has filed this complaint against Suriya, Jyothika and TJ. This group has said in the petition that many scenes of the film defame the Vanniyar community.
Earlier, the Vanniyar community had demanded a ban on ‘Jai Bheem’ even at the time of the film’s release. Apart from condemning the team, the Vanniyar group also said that they want the objectionable scenes to be removed from the film. He had also demanded an unconditional apology from the Jai Bhim team along with demanding Rs 5 crore as damages. However, the fans of the film have praised a lot. The film was also sent for the Oscars.
‘Jai Bheem’ was released on Amazon Prime Video on November 2 last year. The film is about the custodial torture of members of the Irular community. Initially, Hindi speaking people were troubled by a scene in which Prakash Raj was shown slapping a man for speaking in Hindi. Members of the Vanniyar community claimed that the film maligns his image. Vanniyar Sangam then sent legal notices to Suriya, Jyothika, director TJ Gyanvel and Amazon Prime Video.
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Legal Wing Chief Advocate Balu has written in the legal notice that certain scenes of ‘Jai Bheem’ defame the Vanniyar community. Vanniyar Sangam has demanded removal of objectionable scenes and compensation of Rs 5 crore. Following the notice, members of the Vanniyar community have openly threatened Surya. PMK’s Nagapattinam district secretary Sitamalli Pazhani Sami has also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for those who attacked the actor.
