Bollywood Actress Jaya Bachchan Turns 74

Bollywood Actress Jaya Bachchan, who has appeared in great films like Uphaar, Kora Kagaz, Abhimaan, Sholay, Zanjeer, Silsila, has turned 74 today. Jaya, who is known for her natural acting, started her acting career at the age of 15, influenced by filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Jaya debuted as a lead with the 1971 film Guddi. Apart from the film journey, Jaya was also in a lot of discussion due to her and Amitabh’s love life and strong attitude, controversy. In 2004, Jaya stepped into politics and was successful too.

Born on 9 April 1948 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Jaya Bhaduri completed her schooling and worked in Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film Mahanagar (1963) at the age of just 15. After this Jaya appeared in two Bengali films Suman and Dhanyi Meye.

Working with Satyajit Ray in Bengali films, Jaya joined the Film and Television Institute in Pune, where she received a gold medal in her graduation. Impressed by the acting, Hrishikesh Mukherjee gave Jaya the lead role in Guddi (1971) opposite Dharmendra. This film became a huge hit. After this, Jaya appeared in films like Jawani Deewani, Anamika, Uphaar, Piya Ka Ghar, Parichay, Prayas, Bawarchi.

Jaya Bhaduri first appeared in Bansi Birju opposite Amitabh. Soon after, both were seen together at a glance. Jaya was making a mark in the industry with her best acting, but Amitabh’s films were constantly flopping. Amitabh Bachchan was in the lead role in Salim Javed’s film Zanjeer, but due to his films being flop, no heroine agreed to work with him. Jaya acted in this film and the film proved to be a tremendous hit.

After Zanjeer became a hit, Amitabh wanted to go to London with Jaya to celebrate. But his father put a condition that if he wants to go with Jaya then he will have to get married first. Amitabh agreed and both got married on 3 June 1973. They have two children Shweta and Abhishek.

Jaya Bachchan was pregnant during the shooting of the 1975 film Sholay. The actress appeared in the film Silsila after marriage but she quit working in films after the birth of her daughter. After a break of 17 years, Alia made an acting comeback with Hazar Chaurasi’s mother. After this, Jaya appeared in films like Fiza, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Drona.

In 2008, during the promotion of the film Drona, while encouraging Priyanka, who was talking in Hindi, Jaya said, “We are people of UP, that’s why talk in Hindi, forgive the people of Maharashtra.” Raj Thackeray criticized her statement and said that if she does not apologise, then all the films of Bachchan will be banned. When Jaya did not apologize, the theater was vandalized after the release of Amitabh’s film The Last Lear. Eventually Amitabh Bachchan apologized in lieu of Jaya.

Aishwarya Rai returning from an event was stopped by the paparazzi and tried to take a picture. When the photographer called Aishwarya as Ash, Jaya was furious. Jaya said, have you kept Ash-Ash, does she study in your class?

When a fan tried to take a picture of Jaya Bachchan from her mobile, Jaya shouted at her. Later, after calling close, said, did you take permission from me before taking a picture from the phone, learn a little bit of manners.

Jaya reprimanded the photographer who was clicking the picture during the 2014 elections. He said, are you behaving like a wild? Abhishek Bachchan, who was present on the spot, pacified him.

Jaya Bachchan, who arrived on stage to deliver a speech during the Literature Festival, had called her own son Abhishek’s film a nonsense.

There was a ruckus on the matter of slapping Shahrukh
