Due to the release of the film The Kerala Story on May 5, the violence in Akola city of Maharashtra increased so much that a boy died. Several vehicles were burnt during the violence while 9 people including a female constable were injured.
Acting on the matter, the police have imposed section 144 in Hariharpeth area of Akola and around 26 people have been detained. Internet services in that area have also been stopped. Actually, this violence started with a controversial post related to The Kerala Story.
According to a BBC report, when a man named Arbaaz objected to the inflammatory post, he started receiving abusive and threatening messages. Arbaaz’s argument with a person increased so much in the message itself that both formed factions and went to fight with each other.
The matter started on May 13, Saturday, in Hariharpeth area of Akola, after which both had come to meet each other. As soon as they met, a fight started between the two groups, in which one person died.
The police tried to stop the violence as soon as they got the information, in which two policemen were also injured. At the same time, 8 people who committed violence were also injured. The police have arrested 26 people and registered an FIR against them for inciting violence.
District Magistrate Neema Arora has ordered imposition of Section 144 in 4 police station areas of the city. The police have been ordered to take immediate action against the perpetrators of violence.
According to the local administration, Deputy Chief Minister of the state and Guardian Minister of Akola Devendra Fandavis is monitoring the situation and is constantly appealing to the people to maintain peace.
Some people had sent controversial posts on the WhatsApp group of the Government Medical College of Jammu and Kashmir, which led to a fight between two groups. Five medical students were injured in the violence, while 10 people were rusticated from the college.
