Tollywood Actor Mahesh Babu, who is called the Prince of South Cinema, has turned 48 today. Mahesh, the son of famous Telugu star Krishna Babu of his time, stepped into the world of acting at the age of just 4. Mahesh doesn’t know Telugu language, but when he delivers dialogues, no one can fault him. Today Mahesh Babu’s craze is such that whenever his films are released in South, an atmosphere of celebration is created. Some shower flowers in theaters from helicopters, while some break theaters for not getting tickets. Crazy fans of Mahesh have also set many big world records for him.
Mahesh Babu is not only a hero in film reels but also in real life. Mahesh Babu donates 30% of his annual income. Along with adopting two villages, Mahesh has got more than a thousand children done for heart surgery. However, he prefers to keep all these works a secret.
Mahesh Babu was born on 9 August 1975 in Chennai. His father Ghatameni Siva Rama Krishna was a big star of South Cinema and mother Indira Devi was a housewife. Mahesh was at number four among 5 siblings Krishna, Indira, Ramesh, Padmavati, Manjula and Priyadarshini. Most of Mahesh Babu’s upbringing took place in Madras while living with his maternal grandmother.
At the age of 4, Mahesh came one day to watch the shooting of his father’s film Needa. Seeing the charm of Mahesh’s face, director Dasari Narayan Rao gave him a role in the film Needa (1979). Mahesh’s acting in the first film was so strong that he got many films like Shankharvam, Bajar Rowdy, Mugguru, Kodukul, Gudachari. As a child artist Mahesh worked in about 9 films.
When Mahesh turned 15, the continuous availability of big films and his shooting started affecting Mahesh’s studies. Seeing Mahesh’s busy schedule, father Krishna Babu felt that Mahesh would be left behind in studies. When the father explained to Mahesh, he obeyed and stopped working in films.
After 9 years after completing his studies from Loyola College, Chennai, Mahesh Babu started his film career again after getting his father’s consent. Mahesh made his debut as a lead in the 1999 film Raja Kumarudu. Mahesh Babu got the Nandi Award for Best Actor Debut for the very first film. The first few films of Mahesh’s career were flops, but then in 2005 he achieved stardom with the film Athadu. The cult film Athadu is counted among the best films of Telugu cinema and Mahesh’s career.
Mahesh Babu may belong to Telugu family, but he did not know Telugu language. When he came to films, he had to speak dialogues in Telugu language only. In such a situation, understanding the meaning of those dialogues, he used to memorize them and speak them.
Mahesh Babu’s 2006 film Pokiri became the highest-grossing film in Telugu cinema. However, Magadheera broke its record after 3 years. Salman Khan’s film Vought is the Hindi remake of Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri. The famous dialogue of the film – Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di phir main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta, was spoken in Telugu in the film Pokiri, which was later spoken in Hindi by Salman.
In the year 2007, Mahesh Babu took a break from films for 7 months. After some time he started working in the film Kaleja, but that film got stuck for years. Finally the film was released after 3 years in 2010, but could not show anything special at the box office.
In the year 2011, Mahesh made a comeback with the film Dokudu. After this Mahesh gave many back-to-back hits and became a superstar of Tollywood. Mahesh Babu is the highest paid actor of South Industry after Rajinikanth. Mahesh Babu is the only South star who has 8 Nandi and 4 Filmfare Awards.
Mahesh Babu and Namrita Shirodkar fell in love while working together in the film Vamshi. Both got married in 2005 after being in a relationship for 4 years. The couple has 2 children Gautam and Sitara. Mahesh Babu has so much popularity in the South that some fans have even built a temple named after him in Kondapuram, Andhra Pradesh. A statue of Mahesh Babu has also been installed inside the temple.
