2023 proved to be tremendous for the Indian film industry. The films released this year generated record breaking earnings of around Rs 11,730 crore. This year only the top five films have earned Rs 4,386 crore at the box office. This year a new trend was seen that the earning of only four adult certificate films was around Rs 1,875 crore.
Talking about actors, this year proved to be very lucky for Shahrukh Khan, whose three films were released, out of which two were blockbusters. Apart from him, Sunny Deol also made a comeback with a bang through Gadar 2. Animal established Ranbir Kapoor as a young superstar. Bobby Deol also shone in this film. Among actresses, films of Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Kiara Advani were hits.
According to the report of Ormex Media, after the Corona period, 2023 is the year in which the Indian film industry earned the highest. In 2022, there was a collection of Rs 1,0637 crore at the box office, whereas in 2023 this figure is Rs 1,093 crore more i.e. Rs 11,730 crore.
Sanket Kulkarni, Head of Business Development (Theatrical), Ormex Media, says – There are 3 big reasons for the increase in the earnings of Hindi films at the box office. The production of the first such action films which the audience wants to watch in theaters only.
Secondly, Bollywood made such films for which the audience is ready to spend more money. Third, Hindi cinema has attracted audiences by taking advantage of the fame of Bollywood stars and combining the storytelling style of South Indian directors.
The global collection of the five films released this year alone was Rs 4,386 crore. Of these, four films were in Hindi and one film was in Tamil language. Shahrukh Khan’s Jawan remained on top and Pathan came second. Ranbir starrer ‘Animal’ remained at number three. Sunny’s Gadar 2 was the fourth highest grossing film and Vijay starrer ‘Leo’ was the fifth highest grossing film.
Till last year, it was a big deal for a film to reach Rs 300 crore club, but now this scale has changed. Now there is a trend of films reaching Rs 500 crore club. This year there have been six films whose collection has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark.
In the year 2023, the films of senior Bollywood actors Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol performed well. 58 year old Shahrukh Khan proved to be the biggest star of the year whose two films have collected Rs 2,193.99 crore at the box office.
His third film Donkey did not prove to be a blockbuster, but it also crossed the collection mark of Rs 215 crore in three days. Shahrukh made a comeback in films after four years. Earlier, his film released in 2018 had proved to be a zero flop.
Apart from this, 58 year old Salman Khan also had two films released this year which did average business at the box office. Salman starrer ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’, released on April 21, had collected Rs 192 crore at the global box office. Whereas, ‘Tiger 3’, released on Diwali, had managed to collect Rs 466 crore.
In 2023, the Deol family got the success for the first time in Bollywood that they had been waiting for for a long time. 88 year old Dharmendra’s character in the love story of Rocky and Rani was very much liked. Especially the kissing scene of him and Shabana Azmi was discussed a lot. At the same time, his son 66 year old Sunny Deol also managed to make a comeback.
His film Gadar 2 proved to be a blockbuster. This has proved to be the biggest film of Sunny’s 40 year career so far. This year gave happiness to Sunny’s younger brother Bobby also. Bobby became a hit by playing the role of villain Abrar in the film Animal. This film gave new life to his career. Animal has proved to be the first blockbuster of Bobby’s career so far.
This year was completely lucky for Ranbir Kapoor among young actors. Animal brought him into the category of superstars. Earlier, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’, released in March, also proved to be a hit and collected Rs 220 crore. Amidst the power of senior actors, only Ranbir’s film ‘Animal’ could collect more than Rs 500 crore. Apart from him, Ranveer Singh was also able to give hit films like Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film had collected Rs 355 crore.
This year was very good for Vicky Kaushal also. His two films were successful in collecting more than Rs 100 crore. The film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’, released on June 2, collected Rs 115 crore. At the same time, ‘Sam Bahadur’, which released on December 1, has also earned Rs 109 crore so far. Apart from Ranbir and Vicky, Karthik Aryan also managed to give a hit. His film Satyaprem Ki Katha had earned Rs 117.77 crore. Whereas ‘Shehzada’, released in February, proved to be a flop.
