Cricketer Shubman Gill Became The Voice Of Spider-Man

Read Time:2 Minute, 8 Second

Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has lent his voice to Indian Spider-Man Pavitra Pabhakar in the recently released animated film ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’. Gill has dubbed in Hindi and Punjabi for this film. During a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Shubman shared the experience of his dubbing debut. Apart from this, he also discussed trolling on social media.

It was a memorable experience for me to be the voice of our Indian Spider-Man, Pavitra Prabhakar in Hindi and Punjabi languages. I had never dubbed for any project before. The character is a typical Indian teen ager who is very funny, goofy and outspoken. In real life, I am as funny as Pavitra.

I got this project through my manager only. He came to me and said that Sony Pictures is interested in signing me and they want me to be the voice of Indian Spider-Man. Hearing this, I jumped with joy. Personally, I am a big fan of Spider-Man. Just what then, I immediately agreed.

The most difficult thing for me during dubbing was that I had to express different emotions in three hours. Usually there are a lot of emotions that we don’t show everyday and we know that the character of Spider-Man is a teenager with a lot of things going on around him. In such a situation, it was the most difficult task for me to show all his emotions in three hours. At the time of dubbing, I was very nervous because I myself watch such films. In such a situation, there was pressure on me to give my best. My dubbing coordinator helped a lot in this work. Kept listening to him deeply and everything went smoothly.

When I reached the studio for the first time, I was nervous. My own voice was echoing in front of me. There have been times where the recording people were happy with my dubbing but I was not satisfied with my work. I used to do dubbing in 3 to 4 styles so that one of them would be liked by the makers. My only aim is to give my best and hence work till I am satisfied.

Personally, I enjoyed dubbing in Punjabi more than Hindi as it is my mother tongue as well. When Spider-Man was not dubbed in Punjabi, it used to have short clips in Punjabi which I really liked. Now the entire film has been dubbed in Punjabi. In such a situation, it feels even better to be a part of this film.
