The beauty of Kashmir on the film screen is shining again. During the last two years, shooting of 200 Bollywood films, web series and albums was approved here. This is a record figure of the last 34 years. Kashmir started scorching from the heat of terrorism since the early 90s.
Now the situation has become a large extent better in terms of security. South Indian filmmakers including Bollywood are also shooting here. The Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council (JKFDC) was formed in 2021. There is a provision of single window clearance to make the film shooting process easier.
So far, more than one thousand artists have registered in JKFDC. This makes it easy for local artists to get work. Zahoor Ahmed, a local filmmaker, says that along with the actors, line producers, technicians and cameraperson are also getting adequate work.
90% of films shooting in Jammu and Kashmir takes place in Kashmir. Filmmakers are now shooting in traditional sites like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Dal Lake of Kashmir in new destinations like Bandipora’s Gurez and Wular, Dudhpathri and Yoshmarg.
