For a long time there was no committee like Censor Board in Indian OTT. However, things changed in early 2021 when the Information and Broadcasting Ministry framed the Information Rules 2021 . Under this, Indian streaming platforms were asked to put in place a mechanism to address the grievances of the viewers.
It’s only been a few months since this Ethics Code came into force and the complaint started with Netflix India on Tuesday this week. Netflix India received a complaint against Anurag Kashyap’s short film Made in Heaven and actress Shobhita Dhulipala in the 2020 anthology Ghost Stories. In the scene that led to the complaint, the actress ate her own fetus after having a miscarriage.
According to the report, the complaints of the viewers will have to be registered within 24 hours and they will have to be resolved at the earliest. The complaint is now with the Grievance Redressal Officer (GRO) of Netflix. A Netflix spokesperson said, “Since this was a partner-managed production (RSPV Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment), we have reached out to the production company to share the complaint.”
